Itzel & John

August 29, 2020

If we had it John’s way, we’d all be taking tequila shots on a ski lift shredding double blacks all weekend. If we had it Itzel’s way, it’d be margaritas on a rooftop pool in 80 degree weather. Since our parents likely wouldn’t have been thrilled with either, we thought Washington wine country would suffice. There are many bottles of wine waiting to be popped – all we need are your lovely faces.

- Itzel & John

The Couple

Itzel & John

He swiped right. She swiped right.

One embarrassing, yet effective, pick up line later the two found themselves at Wednesday Tiki Night (one tiki drink, two straws – John knew what he was doing) on a rainy Seattle evening. John remembers Itzel talking about herself a lot. Itzel thinks John was just asking her a lot of questions and making too many restroom runs. It turns out John was in the restroom taking notes on Itzel’s answers.

Throughout the first few weeks of this romance Itzel mentioned she planned to leave Seattle soon and John mentioned he planned to travel the world within the next year. It seemed the romance would be short-lived.

But John was handsome, and Catholic… and spoke Spanish! Itzel was smitten.

After eight months of being inseparable came another eight of long distance as John traveled through South America and Southeast Asia. When John returned to Seattle the two moved in together living in domestic bliss as Itzel cooked for John every night and John cleaned up her messes in the kitchen. John proposed in April of 2019 after teasing Itzel for several months (ask John about the chocolate cake and Christmas lights incidents). Despite the teasing, Itzel said yes.

Bridesmaids and Bridesmen

Noemi Frechette

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Badass Physician Assistant

Noemi was Itzel’s post-college roommate in Seattle. The two found each other on Craigslist so you could say the internet’s been good to Itzel.
Fun fact: Noemi insisted on driving Itzel to her first date with John because she was positive Itzel would chicken out. It’s just an internet stranger anyway, right?

Alexandra Carl

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Being a second mother to all her friends

Alex showed up to Itzel’s dorm room on her first day of college and told her it was no longer necessary to ask for her parents’ permission every time she went anywhere. Needless to say, many memories have been shared since that day.

Amy Lucatero

ITZEL’S COUSIN
DAY JOB: Facebook (almost) CEO

Although neither of them became attorneys like most of the family might have predicted, their talents were put to use over the years, convincing their parents to shuttle them between California and Washington every summer.

Stephanie Carlon

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Super Nurse

When she’s not busy saving lives you can find Stephanie at home, sewing quilts for hospitalized children. She’s an actual angel on earth, occassionally dragged into mayhem by Itzel.

Helen Lucatero

ITZEL’S SISTER-IN-LAW
SPECIAL POWER: Creating the world’s most adorable children

Helen is married to Itzel’s older brother, Rigo. Although both of them are stuck with him for life, Helen has been much more graceful about it. The Lucatero family is eternally grateful to this angel.

Marshall Hawley

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Engineer / World Traveler

Itzel and Marshall met in AP History junior year. After they both failed the first test, Itzel convinced Marshall to drop the class with her. Itzel’s parents wouldn’t sign the permission slip so although they were ultimately separated, the friendship survived!

Jessica Castro

ITZEL’S SISTER
DAY JOB: Student / Former Cheetah Girl

Okay, biological cousins turned sisters. When Jessica’s not busy crushing being a working college student, you can find her sharing funny memes on the internet.

Lisa DuBois

ITZEL’S COOL OLDER COUSIN
DAY JOB: Mother and Wife Extraordinaire

After spending most of her childhood wanting to be cool like Lisa, it’s probably no surprise Itzel ended up in Seattle living with her. Now Lisa is Itzel’s biggest cheerleader and laughs at all her jokes – someone’s gotta do it.

Evelyn Torres

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Tooth Fairy

College friends turned friends forever. Itzel’s ‘yes’ friend and everything you could hope to be! If you can’t find her, just look for the tall model with a permanent smile on her face.

Shanttal Garcia

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Amazon (almost) CEO

Whatever you do, do not ask Shanttal for embarassing stories of Itzel. She doesn’t have any and the conversation would end there. Shanttal’s been there for every high and every low, a true friend through thick and thin!

Gary Tumber

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Boeing Engineer / Awesome Dancer

Itzel and Gary met through Mashall so you could say the friendship was destined for greatness from the start. The three almost lived together when Itzel moved to Seattle but yet again, Itzel’s parents wouldn’t sign the ‘permission slip’… so as fate would have it, Itzel and Noemi ended up together.

Hary Tumber

ITZEL’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Boeing Engineer / Awesome Dancer

You’re not seeing double, this is another person! Hary is the ‘nice’ twin (sorry, Gary). The OG Seattle crew consisted of Hary, Gary, Marshall, and Noemi and you could say they’re the main reason Itzel lasted in Seattle long enough to meet John.

Groomsmen and Groomswoman

Jeff Duchardt

JOHN’S BROTHER
DAY JOB: robot vacuum owner & aspiring pro-golfer

John and Jeff met back in the 90s when their parents introduced them as brothers. Despite a wooden toy train and a golf club to the head, courtesy of John, Jeff still remembers his name and that he loves John.

Kiley Duchardt

JOHN’S SISTER
DAY JOB: surpassing John on all fronts

Outside of being the family jewel and its only athletic talent, Kiley has been giving dance lessons to John since 2003. It’s been 16 years but we’re confident she can get him there.

Paul Joerger

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: corporate bro

John and Paul met in high school in St. Louis where they set high school ultimate frisbee rivalries aside and became close friends. Some of John’s fondest memories are cruising around in the Joerger family Riviera convertible with a weekly runs to Culpepper’s for wings. That’s all we can say for now without upsetting our parents.

Josh Welch

JOHN’S FRIEND
STATS: Employed, dog owner

John and Josh met in college and disliked each other immediately. Eventually they disliked each other a little less and studied abroad in Spain together. Josh would say he spent far too much time with John but if you ask John, he’d share a Spanish 70 sq. ft. room with Josh again in a heartbeat. Josh likes puppies, skiing, and making fun of John.

Rob Cronenberg

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Real Estate Boss & Chef

Rob and John met on an icy dance floor at a music festival in college. Both were unimpressed with the other’s dance moves but hit it off right away. Since then, they’ve shared interests in finely crafted cuisine, fresh pow, and strong margaritas.

Jackson Ramsey

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Retired traveling musician, Law Student

John and Jackson went to high school together and is the only fellow Junior Billiken (their weird high school mascot) of the wedding party. Recently Jackson made the unfortunate decision to spend 3 months with John in South America, where he was known as ‘Jesús’.

Neal Abbott

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Planner, being dependable

John and Neal met in high school after an unnamed individual in this very wedding party failed to give John a ride home one night. John and Neal share a love for neutral colored sweaters, REI, and the St. Louis Cardinals. John had the honor of standing by Neal and his lovely wife, Jill at their wedding this past August.

Jake Berman

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Lawyer, Pro-Surfer, Seahawks Fan

Outside of John’s parents, Jake claims the title of John’s longest-tenured roommate, dealing with John for over 4 years. John liked Jake so much that he even followed Jake to his hometown of Seattle after college. Jake eventually escaped to So-Cal where he misses John every day.

Dave Nothstine

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Numbers Guy, Clan Dank

Dave claims the title of John’s longest friend. It’s hard to escape John when he lives next door to you and you’re his only friend who can drive. When John was hungry, Dave’s family welcomed him with open arms and even gave John his own drawer in the kitchen.

Chris Sheahan

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: lucky resident of Jackson Hole, WY, Clan Dank

John first met Chris as the tall guy on crutches who crashed his party in high school. Between then and now there have been music festivals, plenty of fly fishing and pow hunting. Fun fact: only Chris owns more Hawaiian shirts than John and is actually John’s inspiration for his own collection.

Bill Hielscher

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Uncle Extraordinaire

Bill has skied the most days with John out of anyone, ever. They lived together for over 3 years and took their adventures across the Atlantic, renting yellow go-karts (with matching helmets) to cruise around Barcelona. If John had an idea, Bill said yes. God bless Bill.

Derek Majewski

JOHN’S FRIEND
DAY JOB: Corgi father

John and Derek met working at Chempoint when John first moved to Seattle. Since then, Derek has introduced John to the finer things in life, like self-expression, commitment, fine wines, and Corgis. Derek and John enjoy getting taken on double dates by their ladies. John also plays uncle to Oliver, the beloved Corgi of the Majewski-Allen family.

Parents of the Bride

'Yoyo' and Martha Lucatero

So you might be wondering, what’s with the two weddings? Well, Itzel’s parents have had between 3-6 weddings (everyone’s lost count now) so you could say it runs in the family. Yoyo was a vineyard manager for the better part of the last 30 years so if you want to geek out in Washington wine country, he’s your guy. Martha is a ray of sunshine and loves a good party, so you might find her on the mic at some point (or various points) throughout the weekend.

Parents of the Groom

Carol Duchardt

The family treasure. If you’ve met Carol, you know that she brings joy, positivity and relentless amounts of fun enthusiasm to any encounter. She is John’s biggest confidant yet not afraid to quickly label John a bonehead for any trivial mistake or overgrowth in facial hair. You’ll find her gracefully mingling amongst the partygoers, coaching her sons on proper behavior, and sharing a glass of Chardonnay with her fiancé Chris.

John Duchardt

There could never be enough Johns! He is known for eccentric shirts, motorcycles, his endless repertoire of dad jokes and is John’s biggest inspiration and motivation for everything. He’s easy to spot & you can find him sharing a funny story, out on the dance floor with his girlfriend Julianna or enthusiastically mentoring his children.

Schedule

  • Welcome Party

    Change of plans!
Badger Mountain can no longer host our welcome celebration but the good news is that we’ll still get to sip on their wine and devour Yoyo’s famous ‘Carnitas’ in the backyard of the Lucatero home.

  • Ceremony

Although the courthouse has our signatures on the dotted line already, we can’t wait to make this commitment Catholic official in front of all our friends and family. After one courthouse ceremony, a mass, many blessings, and some more lip-locking, we think the deal will really be sealed. Thank you all for indulging us.

Drive

If you’re local-ish, the party is 3.5 hours east of Seattle and not a bad drive with the right tunes and snacks.

The airport to fly in to in the Tri-Cities is the Pasco (PSC) airport. If you feel like exploring the city beforehand, you can fly into Seattle (SEA) and make the 3.5 hour (3 if you drive like John) drive east to the Tri-Cities.

to our guests

By now we believe we’ve reached everyone to directly to inform you all that the new state guidelines do not permit our event to move forward as planned.

We feel fortunate and blessed to still be able to have a Catholic mass on our original date with immediate family and our wedding party.

We can’t thank you all enough for the immense support and love you’ve shown us throughout all of this. We really wanted to make a celebration with all of you happen but it wasn’t in the cards.

The purpose of all of this was always to be married within the Catholic Church and since we are still able to do that on August 29, we are moving forward without a plan for a postponed larger celebration.
